My Story

I started working in IT in the mid-1990s, doing AutoCAD drafting and network support for a civil engineering firm. I quickly realized I was more interested in the network than the drawings. By the late '90s, I was building Windows NT networks from scratch for airlines and travel companies in Las Vegas — sometimes as the only IT person in the building.

Over the next decade, I worked my way up through network engineer and senior engineer roles at companies like National Airlines, Lowestfare.com, and LasVegas.com. I managed corporate migrations from Novell to Windows, designed multi-site networks spanning six states, and built secure infrastructure using everything from Cisco firewalls to open-source tools.

In 2004, I took over as IT Manager for a civil engineering firm in Arizona. I ran their entire IT operation solo across four office locations for over 20 years — servers, desktops, networking, phones, security, backups, vendor relationships, everything. I virtualized their server room, migrated them through every version of Windows Server and Exchange, deployed VoIP, and kept the lights on with near-zero downtime. I left in 2025 when the company was sold.

Southwest Tech Services started in 2010 during the economic downturn. I'd taken a major pay cut at my full-time job, and many of the small businesses around me had lost their IT staff entirely. I started helping them on the side, and it grew from there. Fifteen years later, it's a full managed services practice supporting small businesses across multiple industries.

I work as the entire IT department for most of my clients. I'm the one who answers the phone, shows up on site, designs the network, pulls the cable, configures the servers, sets up the phones, and trains the staff. I don't have a sales team, a marketing department, or a call center. It's just me, doing the work I've been doing for 25 years.

What my clients tell me is that I'm the first IT person they've worked with who explains things in a way they can actually understand. I don't talk over people's heads, I don't push products they don't need, and I don't disappear after the install. If that sounds like the kind of IT support your business needs, give me a call.

What Drives Us

Honesty

We give straight answers. If you don't need something, we'll tell you. If we're not the right fit for a project, we'll say so. Our clients stay with us because they trust us, not because they're locked into a contract.

Reliability

When we say we'll be there, we're there. When something breaks at midnight, we answer the phone. We've been doing this for 25 years and our longest client relationships have lasted over a decade.

Simplicity

We don't overcomplicate things. We choose solutions that are reliable, cost-effective, and easy to manage. We'd rather build you something that works for five years than sell you something you'll outgrow in six months.

Communication

We explain what we're doing and why. No jargon, no condescension, no disappearing acts. When the work is done, you'll understand your own system better than when we started.
